Ian joined Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful as Chief Executive Officer in 2008 after 14 years with The Conservation Volunteers. He has strong environmental and research credentials including a PhD from The Queen's University of Belfast. At Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful Ian has overseen rapid growth in Eco-Schools, the re-introduction of the Seaside Awards and the development of litter-related campaigns such as the BIG Spring Clean, monitoring including the Northern Ireland Litter Survey and research. He has also developed a range of support services for councils including the Northern Ireland Environmental Quality Forum and the litter summit. He is involved in the running of Copeland Bird Observatory in a voluntary capacity.

Charlene McKeown

Environmental Education Manager

Charlene joined Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful as Environmental Education Manager in 2020 after several years of other charity project management and 10 years post primary teaching experience. She taught Spanish, Irish and Geography as her core subjects. She looks after projects such as Eco-Schools and Eco-Campus. Charlene has a BA (Hons) degree in Combined Arts: Spanish, Irish and Geography, a PGCE from Queen’s University and an ILM Level 5 in Leadership and Management. Charlene is married with a daughter and is keen sports and outdoors enthusiast and spends her time in the water whenever possible.
